ACT for Alexandria, in partnership with the City of Alexandria, has launched the Alexandria Resilience Fund to support nonprofit organizations serving residents are affected by the pandemic.
$2 million in CARES Act federal funding will support nonprofit organizations through ACT for Alexandria, Alexandria's community foundation.
The application process for the Fund launched in late September and ACT for Alexandria has already granted $925,000 of the $2 million to 26 organizations. Organizations can apply for grants up to $50,000 through the ACT for Alexandria website, and funds must be exhausted by the end of this calendar year.
Nonprofits that are working to address issues around economic security, housing stability, food security, access to health services, equity in education, and safe and supportive places and programs for children and their families impacted will be prioritized in grant applications.
Kate Garvey, Director of the Department of Community and Human Services for the City of Alexandria, said, “The Resilience Fund is so important because it allows us to provide support to our critical community organizations as they serve as a lifeline to so many Alexandrians harmed by this pandemic”.
According to ACT for Alexandria, COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on communities of color and has exacerbated pre-existing racial inequities in our community. The Alexandria Resilience Fund intends to support organizations committed to addressing racial equity and that have deep, trusted relationships with communities that have been further marginalized by the effects of the pandemic.
Earlier this year, the ACT Now COVID-19 Response Fund granted more than $900,000 in funding to 82 organizations and hosted seven community conversations allowing leaders to discuss nonprofit needs and responses related to the pandemic.
“We are so grateful for the City of Alexandria’s leadership and commitment to the nonprofit organizations providing critical services to our community,” said Heather Peeler, ACT for Alexandria’s President and CEO.
